This section includes the artists’ group the Progressives who represented the cosmopolitanism and Internationalism of the Nehruvian Era. In the 1960’s artists turned towards abstraction and sought indigenous inspiration. In the following decade the figure made a comeback, as a new generation of painters sought to interpret the social and political reality around them.
