There is a history of austerity and abstraction which has interested a number of modern artists. This section of the exhibition features some of the prominent Indian artists, living and dead, associated with sparse compositions and restrained palettes. Their work whether impelled by organic forms or pure geometry draws viewers into a meditative space. The inspiration of these compositions are diverse, from Tantric miniatures to European and American abstract paintings to East Asian mystical and artistic traditions.
